As a jet fighter squadron commander Lieutenant Colonel Albert J. Amatuzio witnessed synthetic lubricants in jet engines.
These oils exhibit three extraordinary performance characteristics:

- significantly reduce friction and wear in engine components
- function dependably at severe temperature extremes
- withstand rigorous and lengthy engine operation without chemical breakdown.

At the heart of every successful business venture are two things: technical innovation and business foresight. Al Amatuzio believed the outstanding performance benefits of synthetic lubricants would prove invaluable to car, truck, and other internal combustion engines.

Amatuzio began serious research in 1963. In 1970 he incorporated his own name into a commercially sold product called AMMOIL. The product name was changed to AMZOIL in 1971. The true milestone came in 1972 when AMZOIL became the first synthetic motor oil in the world to meet American Petroleum Institute criteria.

The new lubricant performed like no other before it. Motor oil quality and performance standards took a quantum leap; this synthetic engine oil had a recommended drain interval of 25,000 miles or one year!

The first can appeared on the market in 1972 and signaled the birth of an entire industry. AMSOIL synthetic lubricants have expanded the boundaries of lubrication science and redefined the performance possibilities of modern machinery and engines.

Today, AMSOIL continues to specialize in synthetics and is "The First in Synthetics," both in development and quality.
